Janet was born April 11, 1947.  She is a 1969 graduate of Newcomb College of Tulane University.  Janet received her Juris Doctorate from Tulane University Law School in 1972.  She was admitted to the Louisiana Bar in 1972.  She was a member of the Tulane Moot Court Board.  Janet is admitted to practice in the Eastern District of Louisiana and before the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. 

Janet is currently a member of the Louisiana Stare Bar Association and the Maritime Law Association of the United States.
